Catching the Northern lights
Welcome to Polarman’s Camp Rovaniemi, our private Northern Lights camp located approximately 25 minutes from Rovaniemi city centre. The camp sits in a peaceful forest clearing with a clear view towards the northern sky, minimal light pollution and a warm Aurora Dome where guests can relax throughout the evening.
On arrival, you will be welcomed by the Polarman, our storyteller and guide to the world of Aurora hunting. The experience begins with a nature walk along a softly illuminated forest trail before continuing to the Aurora Dome.
Inside the heated dome, guests can settle onto reindeer skins beside the crackling fireplace. The indoor temperature remains at approximately +15°C or warmer, providing a comfortable place to return to whenever you need to warm up. A short film about the Northern Lights is shown on a large screen, followed by stories and local legends connected to this remarkable Arctic phenomenon.
Hot berry juice or the Polarman’s special magic drink is served with ginger cookies while the guide keeps watch on the northern sky.
As soon as signs of Aurora activity appear, guests are invited outside to experience the Northern Lights from the open forest clearing. The clear northern view and low level of surrounding light create excellent conditions for observing the sky. The guide can also take photographs and videos of the Northern Lights with you, if requested.
A cosy outdoor firepit is available during the evening, where guests can grill sausages and marshmallows while waiting under the Arctic sky.
